As we end our ninth year, we are faced with a funding crisis. To support the forthcoming issues, we need to raise $30,000 by December 31, 2007. Our goal in starting the journal was to improve practice and facilitate communication among practitioners and researchers worldwide who are concerned with the well-being of young children. As an online journal, ECRP has been innovative in the use of graphics, video, sound, hypertext links, databases, and searching capabilities—all features useful for informing practice in our changing world. We began the journal in 1999 with federal funding. Since 2003 the journal has been supported by foundations, corporate sponsors, and individual contributions. This year the ECRP Web site will receive more than 1.3 million visits. ECRP is the only free peer-reviewed online journal in our field that is totally bilingual in English and Spanish, and as a result, each year it reaches more and more early childhood educators in the United States, Latin America, and many other countries. Katz, Editor -- Early Childhood Research & Practice (ECRP) was the first scholarly, peer-reviewed, bilingual (English-Spanish) open-access electronic journal in the field of early care and education. ECRP published research reports, literature reviews, essays, interviews, reflections, and commentary on emerging trends and issues by scholars and practitioners from around the world. Areas of emphasis included classroom practice, curriculum, ethics, teacher preparation, higher education, policy, and parent participation. Beginning with the Spring 2004 issue (Vol. 6, No. 1), ECRP was fully bilingual (English and Spanish). Traditional Chinese translations of selected articles were sponsored by the Yew Chung Education Foundation. ECRP is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals .
